Mind Control

Sri Ramana Maharshi, who has advocated and practiced the Self-Realization concept to gain the eternal bliss, has stated the following on the Mind and its control .

Mind  can be disciplined  by controlling the breath.if you practice it by yourself without others help.
Otherwise the mind comes under control spontaneously in the presence of  superior power.Such is the greatness of association with the wise people like sages (Sanskrit equivalent is "Rishi").

If you go the way of your thoughts, you will carried away by them and you will find yourself in an endless maze. But if you go back tracing the source of thoughts, those thoughts will disappear and only the Self (Soul or Atma)alone will remain.

The occult powers(Siddhi) are only in the mind. They are not natural to the Self.So that which is not natural but acquired ,cannot be permanent and is not worth striving for also.

The quality of food influences the mind because the mind feeds on the food consumed.

The mind is by nature restless. Begin liberating from its restlessness: give it peace: make it free from distractions:train it to look inward: make this a habit. This is done by ignoring the external world.

Mind improves by practice and becomes finer just as the razor's edge is sharpened by stropping. Then mind is better able to tackle internal or external problems.

There are two aids to strengthen the Mind towards concentration and casting off the distractions.

1)Physically ,the digestive and other sense organs are kept free from irritation by regulation of the food intake both in quantity and quality.
-   Non-irritants are eaten : avoiding chillies, excess of salt,onions, wine, opium,etc..
-   Avoid constipation, drowsiness and excitement , and all the foods that induce them.

2) Mentally take interest in one thing and fix the mind on it.Let such interest be all absorbing to the exclusion of everything else. God or "mantra" may be chosen. The mind gains strength to grasp the subtle and merge into it.

The essence of the Maharishi's teachings is that if you identify yourself and all other things in the  universe having one origin that is Supreme power or God, then there will be everlasting peace and happiness all over.
